Consignment at Max & Lily's

Everything you need to know before you consign.

Whether you’re consigning for the first time or have been with us for years, we encourage everyone to review this page periodically. As Max & Lily’s grows, our policies and procedures are updated to better serve our consignors, shoppers, and team.

Working Together

We’re proud to help local families save money, shop sustainably, and give great children’s items a second life.

Our team works hard every day to keep Max & Lily’s organized, well-stocked, and welcoming. You can help us do that by thoughtfully preparing your items before bringing them in and following the guidelines below.

When your items are easy to sort and review, we can get through everyone’s consignments more efficiently and continue providing a great experience for every family who shops and consigns with us.

We truly appreciate your understanding, cooperation, and support as we continue to grow.

Thank you for being a valued part of the Max & Lily’s community.

How Consignment Works

  1. Thoughtfully prepare your items at home before bringing them in. (Detailed preparation guidelines are below.)
  2. Bring in your consignments anytime Tuesday through Friday while consignments are being accepted. Before making the trip, please check our current consignment status to see what we’re accepting.
  3. Accepted items have a two-month consignment period that begins when they’re most likely to sell, not necessarily the day they’re dropped off.
  4. As your items sell, 40% of the selling price accrues in your consignor account. Your balance never expires and can be used toward purchases in the store or cashed out by check, PayPal, or Zelle.

Consignment Status

We use a simple color system to communicate our current consignment status.

🟢 GREEN – We’re accepting consignments.

🟡 YELLOW – We’re accepting limited consignments.

🔴 RED – Consignments are temporarily paused.

Our current status is always posted on our homepage, social media, and text alerts.

To receive consignment updates by text, be sure you’re enrolled in our Loyalty Rewards Program. Simply check in with your phone number on our in-store tablet during your next visit.

Consignment Days

When we’re accepting consignments, you’re welcome to bring in your items anytime Tuesday through Friday.

We do not accept or review consignments on weekends.

Weekends are dedicated to processing inventory, merchandising, resetting the sales floor, planning ahead, and recharging so we’re ready for the week ahead.

If consignments are limited or paused, we’ll let you know when we’re ready to begin accepting items again.

Seasonal Consignments

Our seasonal intake is based on inventory, not fixed calendar dates.

Depending on inventory flow, we may accept all seasons, only the current season, or temporarily pause consignments while we catch up and prepare for the next season.

This flexible approach helps us create the best possible experience for both shoppers and consignors while ensuring your items arrive when demand is highest.

Before bringing in consignments, please check our homepage or give us a call for our current consignment status. We regularly update our website, text alerts, and social media so you’ll always know what we’re accepting.

Preparing Your Consignment

Consignment works best when items arrive clean, organized, and ready for the sales floor.

We truly want to accept as much as we can. Before bringing items, please take the time to thoughtfully review your consignment at home. We ask that you use your best judgment and bring only the items you feel meet our standards, rather than bringing everything for us to sort through.

Please:

  • Check carefully for stains, holes, excessive wear, storage odors, broken zippers, missing buttons, and missing pieces.
  • Wash clothing and wipe down toys and equipment.
  • Count all game and toy pieces.
  • Fold or neatly organize clothing before bringing it in. Please don’t stuff clothing into bags or bring heavily wrinkled items.
  • Bring items in reusable bags, boxes, laundry baskets, or bins. (Please no garbage bags.)

Please remember that bringing fewer, high-quality items is almost always more successful than bringing large quantities that haven’t been reviewed beforehand.

Items that require significant sorting, cleaning, repairs, or additional attention take valuable time away from processing the great items waiting behind them. Thoughtfully prepared consignments help us serve everyone more efficiently.

What We Accept

We accept children’s clothing, shoes, toys, books, baby equipment, maternity wear, and more from newborn through teen.

Items should be:

  • Clean
  • Current in style
  • Brand name
  • Excellent or like-new condition
  • Complete and ready for the sales floor

For safety reasons, we do not accept any product a baby can sleep or lie in unless it is brand new in its original, unopened packaging.

This includes:

  • Cribs
  • Bassinets
  • Pack & Plays
  • Sleep loungers
  • Infant sleepers
  • Similar sleep products

The same policy applies to car seats and car seat bases.

Our Review Process

Every consignment receives multiple quality checks.

After an initial sort, accepted items continue through pricing, tagging, hanging, and merchandising. As items move through each step, additional defects such as stains, wear, missing pieces, or safety concerns may occasionally be discovered.

Items that no longer meet our standards are removed from inventory and donated in accordance with our donation policy. Because of the volume of items we process, merchandise removed during our quality review is not set aside for return.

Accepted items that successfully pass each step are tagged and placed on the sales floor during the appropriate selling season.

Payouts

Your consignor account balance never expires and may be:

  • Used toward purchases
  • Paid by check
  • Sent through PayPal
  • Sent through Zelle

Unsold Items

After your two-month consignment period ends, you’ll have a two-week grace period to collect any unsold items.

After that time, remaining merchandise may be donated or sold during clearance without compensation.
